Montpelier – “Well, I better tell you how our town lies. Main Street is over here….”
Thornton Wilder shows off the fictional town of Grovers Corners first thing in his Tony Award & Pulitzer-Prize Winning play, OUR TOWN.
Lost Nation Theater is very happy to show off how our town lies through the photographs of Lloyd Devereux Richards!
Best known as a lawyer and author, Mr. Devereux Richards is also an avid amateur photographer – who over the years has captured hundreds of quintessential, beautiful, and honest images of our central Vermont community.

A curated selection of his work will be on display in our Lobby Gallery throughout the run of LNT’s production of Our Town – called “the Best American Play Ever Written” by Edward Albee – for two weeks only: Wednesdays-Sundays, April 16-26 at Montpelier City Hall Arts Center.
This beloved American classic wowed Broadway audiences as recently as 2024! Surprisingly modern, ordinary moments become unforgettable in Our Town! Lost Nation Theater has subtitled their production “For Our Community” – which makes being able to pair Lloyd Devereux Richards’ photos with the show all the more special.

Born in New York City, Richards worked as an attorney in Vermont and raised three children. Previously, he served as a Senior Law Clerk for an Indiana Court of Appeals judge, researching and writing drafts for dozens of published opinions, including the appeal of a serial killer sentenced to death and subsequently electrocuted.
Before practicing law, Richards traveled extensively through Europe, Africa, and Central America, journal writing and bird watching. In 2012, he released his first novel – “Stone Maidens” – which became a best seller in 2022 after his daughter posted about the book on Tik Tok! Since then, he’s also published “Maidens of the Cave” and “The Runner.”

In addition to his photo-hobby, he enjoys hiking, writing poetry and sketching pen and ink drawings. He lives with his wife Cameron O'Connor and their two dogs here in Montpelier, Vermont.
While on walks with his dogs, or running errands, Richards has captured cows in the pasture, horses in the field, deer in the cemetery, sunsets, moonrises, the state house in all kinds of weather, country roads in all kinds of weather, downtowns, and the way light shines through cracks in old windows creating new shadows.
All these are a perfect complement to Our Town. Richards’ photographs will be accompanied by poems submitted by local community members inspired by their thoughts about our town!
